Reason Versus Emotion

"'Reason versus emotion. Will it always be like that?'...
"'On this planet - yes. We have to find a world where reason gets another chance.
"'Where reason and emotion may become allies...instead of enemies.'"
-Edmund Cooper, Seed Of Light (London, 1979), Part Two, Chapter One, p. 71.

Reason with a second chance is good. Reason and emotion as allies is better. For discussion of HG Wells' and Poul Anderson's novels on this issue, see here.

Kaor, Paul!

And I was also reminded of two stories by Anthony Boucher (a friend and editor of Poul Anderson), "Balaam" and "The Quest For St. Aquin." Because these stories discuss or touch on how intellect or reason is one of the things that makes man or any other rational being such a being at all.
