Another Change Of POV

Poul Anderson, Vault Of The Ages, Chapter 12.

Continuing the account of the escape:

Tom takes the place of the guard while Carl and Owl creep to the horses to untie them all and secure three for their escape. Carl's manoeuvre to eliminate the guard had been described from Carl's point of view but, while Tom is impersonating the guard, the narrative shifts to Tom's pov, then shifts back to Carl as the three ride away at the end of the chapter.

Poul Anderson does not seem yet to have full control over narrative point of view: a technical observation that does not otherwise detract from enjoyment of this passage.

Kaor, Paul!

As I've said elsewhere, VAULT OF THE AGES is a very early novel by Anderson, so I would not surprised if some small technical flaws were found indicating the author was still learning the art of writing.
