Poul Anderson, Harvest The Fire, Chapter 11.
Nanotech produces excellent food throughout a space voyage. (In fact, nanotech would revolutionize life in many ways that perhaps have not yet been fully explored by sf writers.)
A festival meal:
brilliant patterns of light in the bulkheads;
Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 3;
jasmine-scented air;
sumptuous food and wine.
If only we had been told again that the air was warm, then the sensory list would have been complete. No wonder the Lunarians are comfortable spending their entire lives inside artificial environments.
Because the food is not described, this post does not properly belong on the Food Thread.

Kaor, Paul!
And I would have liked to have known more about what kind of raw material was used to produce food via nanotech.
Of course I know of how work and research is being done on nanotech. And I keep hoping that things like using nanotech for "growing" houses and buildings will come into wide use. WHY are we STILL using such old fangled stuff as wood, brick, stone, mortar, hammer, nails, saws, etc.????
And I still pine for aircars!!!!!! (Smiles)

"kind of raw material was used to produce food via nanotech."
Probably mostly the same kind of raw material that the biological nanotech currently uses to produce food. Ie: stuff excreted by humans via lungs, bowels, and bladder.
Kaor, Jim!
Of course! (Laughs)
Ad astra! Sean
