Education In The Solar Commonwealth And The Galactic Milieu: Two Details

James Ching's principal counselor in San Francisco Integrate:

"'You're rather an intense type, eh? The indices show you're apt to work yourself into the ground. A change of pace is downright necessary.'"
-Poul Anderson, "How To Be Ethnic In One Easy Lesson" IN Anderson, The Van Rijn Method (Riverdale, NY, 2009), pp. 175-197 AT p. 178.

Dorothea Macdonald's ("Diamond Mask"'s) favorite teacher on Caledonia, before Dee departs for Earth:

"'Be sure to keep on with clothes-designing and jewelry-making, too. It's good to work with the hands when one has to spend overmuch time cudgeling the brain."
-Julian May, Diamond Mask (London, 1995), 16, p. 305.

It sounds like Dee has got it righter than Jimmy.

Kaor, Paul!

Oh, I agree. There were times when James Ching needed to slack off just a wee bit. But he was intense about his studies because of how desperate he was to be recruited by one of the companies making up the Polesotechnic League. An ambition I sympathize with!
