The Game Of Empire, CHAPTER NINETEEN, p. 410.
Targovi:
sees "Ring-gleam and cloud shadows...";
hears "wind-sough in leaves...";
smells "odors of green life...";
feels "grittiness of masonry..."
- and all this seems remote as he confirms his suspicions. Through a window of the Zacharian defense building, he sees a Merseian. Regular readers understand the significance of this revelation. The Zacharians are in league with the enemies of mankind. Not that Targovi is a "man kind" but he serves the Terran Empire.
It is late and that is a good place to stop for the night. Of course, I know the outcome but I am trying to appreciate the narrative as if read for the first time.
Targovi has used Fr. Axor as cover for his own Intelligence operation but, as it happens, the Wodenite priest's scholarly exchanges with their Zacaharian hosts have proved fruitful also. Later, Flandry will fund Axor's research and that is something else that we would like to know more about.

Kaor, Paul!
How about this: the Zacharians were conspiring with the enemies of mankind and the friends of the human race?
And there has been real world speculations about the possibility of Christ becoming incarnate for the salvation of non human races. I think by C.S. Lewis, Ray Bradbury, and Brother Guy Consolmagno, SJ.
Ad astra! Sean
