Since Poul Anderson presents both Buddhist and Christian characters, it seems to me to be appropriate for readers of Anderson's works to assess these two traditions.
Buddhism, involving both the practice of meditation and the analysis of concepts like "soul," is inherently both contemplative and philosophical whereas Christianity, proclaiming a prophesied resurrection, is inherently prophetic but not inherently either contemplative or philosophical although, of course, some Christians contemplate and philosophize.
The historical claims that Siddattha realized enlightenment and that Buddhist practice is a way to the end of suffering and the historical claims that Jesus died, rose and is still alive exist on entirely different credibility and plausibility levels.

Kaor, Paul!
And I consider Christianity far more plausible and convincing than a mere philosophy like Buddhism.
