Something Odd About The Rogaviki

The Winter Of The World, I.

Casiru's observations:

"...they were as aloof, as reserved, as every civilized visitor had reported..." (p. 13)

"...no matter the politeness accorded him, he never saw below the surface of any person. Nor did he find any hope of mobilizing the Rogaviki. That concept did not exist for them. His attempted explanations glided straight off." (p. 16)

"Donya promised she would investigate his warnings further. But a year went past before she seriously did." (ibid.)

We do not reflect on this at time. A cultural difference or something deeper? Where is Poul Anderson taking us? He is taking us somewhere. He is not just writing to fill the page...

Tomorrow, we will embark on Chapter II and a new character called Josserek Derrain.

Meanwhile, our daily news is more turbulent than fiction.

Kaor, Paul!

Almost any other human tribe or nation not hopelessly primitive would grasp at once the implications of the Rahidian conquest of Arvanneth! And be alarmed enough to investigate far sooner.

Ad astra! Sean
