The Winter Of The World, XX.
Cassiru's windows show the Lairs and Hell Cloister although his interior has plum-coloured velvet, bright lamps, crystal and silver and incense. Outside, raging rain washes filth and leaves into canals. From the Newkeep road, Josserek has seen scarecrows made from executed assassins' skins.
Ercer en-Havan receives a blindfolded Josserek somewhere in the Crown Temple.
Thousands of Rogaviki hide in the Swamps of Unvar, then cross the Lagoon by the causeway from the Grand East Highway. The Knife Brotherhoods attack the bastion at the end of the causeway from within and open the gate for the Rogaviki who then hunt through Arvanneth for a winter night by the light of the stars and the Milky Way. Radio communication reports that the Seafolk have bombarded and captured Newport and that tugs will bring warships to Arvennath. Then Seafolk will use captured cannon to dislodge Imperial rifle squads from the houses where they have taken shelter. Rogaviki archers have killed the defenders of the Golin Palace. Josserek leads the Rogaviki inside where he witnesses the suicide of the Imperial Voice and interrogates Guildsman Ponsario.
Names of places and people that were introduced in earlier chapters.
It is almost needless to add that spear-like streaks of snow are borne:
"...upon a wind that yelled and hooted." (p. 169)
Andersonian winds sigh and whisper in times of peace.

Kaor, Paul!
Sidir should have left a stronger garrison in Arvanneth. Or, even better, postponed campaigning up the Jugular River for a few years. And use that time for driving out Killimaraichan interlopers from the Dolphin Gulf. That would have made it impossible for Killimaraich to stir up trouble in Arvanneth. Then he could really turn his attention to breaking the Rogaviki.
Ad astra! Sean
