Sidir And Donya

The Winter Of The World, VIII.

This is where Sidir learns that the Rogaviki are aliens among us. Donya claims that most Rogaviki women can prevent an unwanted pregnancy by an act of will. If that fails, then the new-born child of an outsider is left "'...for the buzzards.'" (p. 82) Donya herself would instantly, gleefully throttle any whelp of Sidir's. Indeed, he is lucky that she has not already castrated him. When he responds to this by saying that the Imperials will kill all of the game animals, Donya goes berserk, attacks Sidir with fingernails and teeth and has to be clubbed by a guard but cannot be apprehended. She and her ally, Josserek, escape from the ship. That is a dramatic end to a pleasant interlude. What next? We embark on Chapter IX

Donya's response is clearly not human. I would not like to spend time among the Rogaviki.

(Occasionally, we advertise books with similar titles.)

Kaor, Paul!

And this callous brutality of the Rogaviki to the most innocent of hominins, new born babies, esp. disgusts me with them.

Kill off enough of the bison herds to break them!

Sean,

I suggest an alliance with the Rogaviki including an agreement that all unwanted children are adopted out and that the right of the Rogaviki to live as bison hunters is respected.

Paul.

That might be theoretically the ideal, but not at all very likely. The norm among has been for rising new civilizations, or revived old civilizations, are for them to be warlike, aggressive, and land hungry. Such a civilization, on seeing how few the Rogaviki are, and understanding their weaknesses, is far more likely to conquer them. Esp., if it was technologically vastly more powerful.
