Tabitha And Arinnian

The People Of The Wind, VI.

I give Hrill her human name and Chris his Ythrian name because this seems to be what they prefer. Endlessly understanding and supportive, she advises him to relax and to be more among his own species. When she sees that his problem is brewing "'...one cyclone of a squabble...'" between them, she withdraws because, as she says, she thinks too well of him to want that but adds, "'We'll take another evening soon if you like.'" (p. 510) That should reassure him that he has not totally blown things between him and her although he seems to be trying hard to do precisely that.

Arinnian has practical, mathematical and literary skills - later, he contributes to the Earth Book - and, by quoting Homer, he informs Tabitha of that poet's existence. Departing for her hotel, she intends to screen some Homer from Library Central. Now we can google the Iliad and the Odyssey.

Tabitha has traveled to the Avalonian moon, Morgana, whereas Arinnian, son of a Navy officer, has visited the other Lauran planets which are listed in Four More Mysterious Places.

Kaor, Paul!

I have read Homer's ILIAD and ODYSSEY, but only in Rieu's prose translation for Penguin Books. I have had in the back of my mind for a long time the idea of reading Homer in a poetic translation as well.

I only WISH we could travel casually to our moon, Luna! Again, I feel so angry at how little has been done in getting off this rock, to date!
