Ferune Departs Mistwood

The People Of The Wind, X.

"Before sunrise, Ferune departed Mistwood." (p. 338)

In other words, his body is disposed of. We should not say "mortal remains" because the Ythrian New Faith recognizes no immortal part.

Descriptions of his rite are summarized in:

I will probably not find anything to add but, if I do, then it will be in a subsequent post.

Kaor, Paul!

And I disagree with the Ythrian New Faith's denial of or indifference to issues like whether or not the spirit survives bodily death.

And didn't Lt. Rochefort read from the funerary rites section of a standard Navy manual prayers for his Cynthiam crewbeing Wa Chaou?

I thought so. And we see Flandry doing the same for deceased members of his crew in THE REBEL WORLDS. Interesting, how ship captains sometimes took on clerical roles!

Sean,

Flandry reads "majestic words" from "the prayerbook" although he "never believed." I took this to refer to a traditional naval funeral service rather than the much vaguer words recited by Rochefort.

Flandry had more crew men to bury and more time it seems, than did Rochefort, for a proper Naval service. That might account for the differences you noticed. I think we both would have liked to have seen Flandry reciting those words in an expanded version of THE REBEL WORLDS.

Sean,

And in a film.

But, in a film that accurately reflected the novel, the camera might pull back, briefly showing the funeral service from a distance but not letting us hear what Flandry said.

Good suggestions, I like them! And we would love to see SOME accurate filmed versions of evem a few of the Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry stories.
