Ferune And His Office

The People Of The Wind, II.

From our knowledge of Ythrians, can we predict what First Marchwarden Ferune of Mistwood's office in the Lauran admiralty will be like? Sure we can:

spacious
sparse
austere
furniture adapted for otnithoid use
a large window showing Gray and the Bay

An Ythrian needs to be able to spread his wings and to see the sky.

Apart from being an Ythrian, Ferune is both an individual and a choth member so a bookshelf holds Terran classics in three languages and there are also offplanet souvenirs. Mistwood is progressive, mechanized, large and prosperous. Ferune dislikes tradition, religion, conservatism and formalities. Bouncing from his perch, he shakes hands like a Terran but greets Holm in Planha. His rippling feathers express his feelings and Holm understands.

Kaor, Paul!

By contrast, we don't see Flandry's office, seen once in WE CLAIM THESE STARS, described in similar detail (aside from the view he had of Admiralty Center). But that is no surprise, when you keep in mind he would seldom be using it (being away most of the time as a field agent).

Interesting, Ferune disliked both the Old and New Faiths of Ythri? Was he an agnostic or atheist?

Sean,

I think that the term, "secularist," would apply: someone who would be unaware of the distinction between atheism and agnosticism or regard it as unimportant.

Paul.

I can imagine other intelligent races not sharing the human passion for making hair splitting distinctions! So Ferune might have been more of a secularist, not agnosic/atheist.
