Genesis, PART ONE, V, has proved to be extremely rich for blogging purposes but it may be time to move on - tomorrow. VI reminds me of Alan Moore's Miracleman, Book Three. In the latter work, Earth has been transformed by superior alien technology. A man in a police uniform is a member of a historical re-enactment society who gives street directions and poses for photographs. There are many festivals, including one to remember dead gods, and a world-wide Carnival.
In Genesis, PART ONE, VI, they have:
New Century's Eve
Creation Day
Remembrance
Fire Night
the Festival for Children
the Darvic Games
the Festival of Illusions
Affirmation Day
Seventeen centuries have passed since Laurinda Ashcroft's day and the world is very different. But it is very different in every chapter of this single-volume future history, a tribute to Poul Anderson's long career of creative and imaginative fiction writing.

Kaor, Paul!
New Century's Eve seem odd. A festival coming only once ever 100 years does not seem like much to me.
And what does "Darvic" mean?
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
A future word with a future meaning.
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
I agree. I did wonder if the "Darvic" games was somehow connected to the Olympic games.
Ad astra! Sean
