Miscellaneous Reflections

The Winter Of The World, VIII.

Sidir dislikes a day at the desk and wonders when he can have a day in the saddle. I heard that Kaiser Wilhelm had a saddle instead of a chair at his desk. A ruler on Ikranaka in Poul Anderson's Technic History sits on a stylized Beast instead of a throne.

Sidir reflects that a jaguar waiting for prey is patient, merely switching his tail - but he himself has no tail! Some Andersonian military types do have tails...

There is a list of to us unfamiliar constellation names. Also, Mars, once red, is now blue.

Sidir thinks:

"I would truly lead armed men into Unknown Roong, built so long ago that the very heavens have changed?" (p. 78)

For historically earlier reflections on the heavens changing, see here

The river journey continues. These are thoughts en route.

To have the Rogaviki win this war, Poul resorted to some -very- unlikely stuff.

Kaor, Mr. Stirling!

Not entirely, PA did have Killimarichan agents like Josserek discovering how use could be made of the Rogaviki against the Empire. And that was possible because Killimaraichan naval units were lurking in some of the islands nearby in what was once called the Caribbean Sea. Without that outside interference the Rogaviki would have been ground up like hamburger.

Ad astra! Sean
