"Un-Man," VII.
Sometimes in a future history, the characters have to talk at each other in order to expound their future society to the readers. This happens during an interlude in the action as Naysmith and Jeanne flee from their enemies.
In World War II, ending in 1945, the UN began as an anti-fascist military alliance.
In World War III, which, according to Sandra Miesel's Chronology, began in 1958, the UN became "'...a military alliance against its own dissident and excommunicated members.'" (p. 53)
According to the Chronology, the First Council of Rio established a UN world government in 1965 whereas, according to Naysmith:
"'The U.N. is in the process of becoming a federal world government .'" (p. 54)
- at the time of "Un-Man," which, according to the Chronology, is set in 2004.
There will be more but, in the midst of breakfast here in Lancaster, I will pause on that discrepancy.

Kaor, Paul!
In any discrepancies found between something Poul Anderson wrote and what Sandra Miesel put in her chronologies, we should go by what Anderson said. In this case, that means the UN world federation was taking form LATER than Miesel's date, which should be considered erroneous.
Ad astra! Sean
