The New Form Of The Old Enemy

"Holmgang," IV.

Some Humanists have established a secret asteroid base and are prepared to murder an innocent man in order to steal the new solar power beam device so that they can both use it to power their own machines and  adapt it for military use. OK. The Humanists are the successors of the gang, the Actionists and the Venusian Federation earlier in this future history series. The same enemy, an innate opposition to civilization, takes successive forms. Looking ahead in the Chronology at the end of Volume 3, we see a Humanist Revolt, followed by the outlawing of the Psychotechnic Institute.

Lundgard thinks that the fact that Bo, while defending the New Enlightenment, must fight and try to kill him proves his, Lundgrad's, point, that reason alone does not settle every issue. As I have said before, in this series, two sets of characters disagree philosophically, then one side wins the ensuing fight.

Kaor, Paul!

I have to at least partly agree with Lundgard. Two opposing POVs or philosophies, whose adherents firmly BELIEVES in them, WILL if that is what it will take for one or the other to survive or triumph. I consider that to be a simple, OBVIOUS fact.

Ad astra and Happy Easter! Sean
