"Un-Man," XIII.
"(Man won't get another chance. We were luckier than we deserved the last time.)" (p. 90)
That is relevant now. My granddaughter began regularly traveling a short distance for some medical treatment. Her journeys were interrupted temporarily by floods and now longer-term by the current pandemic. Yesterday, the Queen addressed the nation and the Prime Minister was hospitalized. I have no confidence that life will return to normal or that it has a norm. Recently, to counteract the spread of the disease, the homeless were to be rounded up and housed somewhere. It is to be hoped that they will not be put back on the street as soon as the current emergency ends.
Anderson's Un-men fight a conspiracy that expresses "...the darkness of the human mind..." (p. 90) We contend with ourselves, each other and our effects on our environment.

Kaor, Paul!
Alas, I have to agree we, as a species, do MORE than simply contend with ourselves and each other!
I hope the Queen's speech has a calming and reassuring effect for Britons! I have heard of the PM needing to be hospitalized because of the coronavirus. His case seems to be worse than that of the Prince of Wales, who only needed to be self quarantined with fairly minimal symptoms. And I hope they both completely recover.
As for the homeless, that will be difficult. For one thing, many of them will be people not of sound mind and unable AND unwilling to be helped. What can you do with people who REFUSE to do what it takes to be helped?
All this continues to reinforce my decades old belief that the only way to solve many of our current problems is by getting OFF this planet and widening our capabilities and margins by developing the possibilities of space.
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
She acknowledged that she was addressing people of many faiths and none and that we reflect through prayer or meditation. Her first radio broadcast was in 1940 to children evacuated from London during the Blitz.
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
Which is what I thought was the kind of speech her Majesty made. I noticed some stress was made on how this was only the fifth time the Queen made such a nation wide speech.
Ad astra! Sean
