Orion Shall Rise, CHAPTER ELEVEN.
In a domesticated forest of the Domain, Ronica Birken travels along a shadowed corridor of alder and beech trees where:
leaves gleam green-gold in "...the last level sunbeams..." (p. 162);
cooling air carries summer odors;
birds twitter while gravel crunches;
she is homesick for her Laskan wildernesses.
Thus, four senses and a reminiscence. The chapter opens:
"The news came to Ronica Birken..." (ibid.)
But it is a while before we learn the news. First we must appreciate the forest.

Kaor, Paul!
"Laskan" of course is a shortening of "Alaskan." And forests have to be "domesticated" if situated large numbers of humans. Improper forest management is the chief reason for the disastrous wildfires California has been getting.
Ad astra! Sean
