The Rogue Planet, Satan, Recedes From Beta Crucis

The Rebel Worlds, X.

As the rogue recedes on its hyperbolic orbit:

raw mountains
gashed valleys
naked stone plains
chill, stagnant seas
night
rare lamps
blue fluorescence
dreary wind-skirl
rushing sterile waters
inanimate, unaware, toiling machines
a dragon's hoard of synthesized isotopes
sufficient reason to garrison and colonize Sector Alpha Crucis
where High Admiral Hugh McCormac waits while battle is joined

Kaor, Paul!

That surprises me, inanimate, unaware machines on the rogue planet Satan. I would have thought operations there would have been important and risky enough to justify installing an AI computer to run them. High radioactive background made/Satan too dangerous for humans to land there.

After the collapse of the Polesotechnic League and during the Time of Troubles, Satan seems to have become, legally, abandoned property. And that dragon's hoard of valuable manufactured isotopes made the Dukes of Hermes immensely wealthy after they took possession when the Empire arose.

Ad astra! Sean
