When Ivar Frederiksen applies to join a tineran train, he is recognizably a University man but also brings a rifle, knows how to use it, is a good hunter, is handy with electrical apparatus and is physically strong. Not all us graduates can claim all of that.
While Ivar treks into the Ironland wilderness with his new traveling companions, Chunderban Desai goes in the opposite direction, into the University to confer with Ivar's fiancee, Tatiana Thane. Stone walls scarred in the Troubles are older than the Empire. Glassy iridescence incorporated into the walls is older than humanity.
As in earlier periods, some universities are old and all remember ancient times. I would be better equipped to accompany Desai into the University than the tinerans into Ironland.

I think universities, as we know them, started to be founded in Italy in the 1100's, soon followed by the Universities of Paris and Oxford, among others. And Oxford and Cambridge universities are certainly hoary with time and age!
Unfortunately, I don't think many US universities are any longer intellectually honest institutions. The best ones will be those who buck the dominant, Politically Correct "woke" party line.
