Breakfasts

Orion Shall Rise, CHAPTER ELEVEN.

Norrmen, or at least some of them, speak "Unglish." (p.166) (See Languages.)

Wairoa deduces from the body language of casual informants that Talence Jovain Aurillac may be important. (4, p. 174) Sure enough, Jovain leads the Gaean coup. His rationale is impeccable: a seizure of power was necessary to prevent a seizure of power. (3, p. 171)

Terai and Wairoa must hurry back to their ship but first they need some breakfast:

"'If a miserable Francey roll and cup of herb tea count as breakfast.'" (4, p. 176)

The attached images show respectively a French and an English breakfast. Which would you prefer? (This is one for The Food Thread.)

Kaor, Paul!

I sense some cynicism in your comment about Jovain's excuses for illegally seizing power!

I think Terai would prefer the English style breakfast! (Smiles)

Depends on how hard you're working physically and what you plan to do that day. If you're a boulivardier with nothing but a gentle stroll to a cafe in prospect, take the croissant and coffee. If you're planning on a 20-mile march or riding to hounds, give me the English version.

People forget how many calories an active life requires -- 5000 or more for an adult male.

Kaor, Mr. Stirling!

Of course! A simple, easy day on the boulevards will not require more tan that cup of coffee and one or two croissants. But I doubt Terai was expecting to have so easy a day--so an English style breakfast would be what he wanted.
