Telekinesis II

"Sargasso of Lost Starships."

See also Telekinesis.

The energy to leave their planet's gravity well cannot come from the Arzunians' own metabolisms;

"'...it must be some unknown cosmic energy source...'" (p. 425);

for them, it is merely an instinctive ability that they do not understand;

however, directing the power requires a lot of nervous energy;

they are tired both by their psychic feats and by physical combat.

The Arzunians want to enslave the Earthmen to fly captured spaceships for them so it is possible, first, that the Earthmen will escape from Arzun by recapturing one of the spaceships and, secondly, that the surviving Arzunians will be too tired by all the fighting to pursue the ship through space. What had seemed to be an impossible struggle might have a satisfactory resolution.

Obviously, that "...unknown cosmic energy source..." would be very useful to Technic and other civilizations if it really did exist in the Technic History timeline. And there must be a source of energy. Otherwise, where do virtual particles and events like Big Bangs come from?

Kaor, Paul!

And that bit about the "...unknown cosmic energy source" used by the Arzunians reminded me of what Erannath said in THE DAY OF THEIR RETURN (Chapter 20) while discussing Aycharaych's telepathic abilities. Erannath said "There is some ultimate quality of the mind which goes deeper than language to enable to read at least the surface thoughts in the minds of any being, in any language, any race.

Sean,
But, again, source of energy and ultimate quality of mind are not the same. Mind emerges from organized energy.
