The night is quiet and cold. Arinnian and Eyath see flowerbeds of janie, livewell, trefoil and Buddha's cup and the breeze makes a harp vine sing.
In the dining hall at Lythran's aerie, conversation was slow and punctuated by silence, unlike a human gathering. (We are told in A Circus Of Hells that Merseians also do not chatter.)

We are also told in Chapter I of A CIRCUS OF HELLS that Merseians were also "...variously bemused or amused by the rigid Terran concept of rank..."
