Human beings sit on (preferably adjustable) furniture.
Rax and Smokesmith stand on their four legs.
An unnamed hulk ripples in his kennel.

And we should expect many different intelligent races, if non-humanoid, to have their own ways of sitting, perching, squatting, sprawling, or even rippling as their bodily forms makes most comfortable for them.
