Jonathan Wild And Jack Sheppard

Sherlock Holmes refers to Jonathan Wild as an earlier Moriarty.

I suggested here that Poul Anderson's Time Patrol, which already interacts with Holmes, might recruit him for a case involving Wild.

The Wikipedia article about Wild refers to Wild's contemporary, Jack Sheppard. See here.

Safe Custody by Dornford Yates, which I am currently reading, refers to Sheppard.

And that unexpected line of literary links is more than enough for tonight.

Kaor, Paul!

And I can imagine Professor Moriarty being recruited by the Exaltationists! Making it necessary for the Time Patrol recruit Holmes to stop Moriarty.
