The People Of The Wind, IV.
See:
Philippe Rochefort
A Falkayn And A Rochefort
A Mixed Colony
This cover image correctly shows Rochefort as brown-skinned.
Eve Davisson: "'I get an impression you disapprove of a mixed colony.'"
Rochefort: "'Well...in a way, yes... I believe in being what you are and standing by your own.'" (p.488)
How does living on the same planet as Ythrians or on the same street as immigrants contravene being what you are? Standing by your own means what? Arguing for community resources to be channeled into parts of town where there are no immigrants? (That is what some of my fellow countrymen mean by it.) I stand by own as long as my own means everyone.

I'm surprised by this error you made! The cover shows CHRISTOPHER HOLM, not Philippe Rocheforte, as carrying Eyath after she was raped by another Ythrian. "Arinnian" was so infuriated he challenged the rapist to a deathpride duel to be fought to the death. That "brown skin" you mentioned could just as easily have been because of Christopher Holm getting SUN TANNED.

Sean,
I thought that Rochefort was attacked by an Ythrian but OK it looks more like a guy carrying one.

Kaor, Paul!
Take a closer look at the image and you will see that Eyath is not attacking. Rathers, she's exhausted, injured, traumatized. As is often the case with rape victims.

Sean,
Yes. I find it a puzzling picture but it makes sense in terms of that scene in the novel.

Kaor, Paul!
And I thought it one of the all too rare times one of Anderson's books got an accurate cover illustration.
