several details that are fully consistent with Poul Anderson's Technic History;
a few technical discrepancies that could easily be edited out;
its main theme which is really at variance with the History but can be rationalized as a fiction within the fiction.
"Sargasso..." and The People Of The Wind are united by their historical references to Manuel the First, the hero of "The Star Plunderer." The People... also refers to the Imperial incorporation of Cynthia. That planet had been referenced in three Technic History installments before a Cynthian joined van Rijn's first trade pioneer crew.
Tabitha Falkayn says that the Imperial sphere approaches a 400 light year diameter which we know that it will have in Flandry's time but see here.
The Technic History is a model of narrative consistency.

And one of those details, perhaps to your surprise, was how a sunburst banner was the flag of the Empire.
I don't like the idea of editing out even minor technical discrepancies from the text of "Sargasso." Any revisions of a text should only be done by its author. But I don't object to ANNOTATIONS discussing these discrepancies and suggesting ways Anderson might have corrected them. I would HOPE a COMPLETE COLLECTED WORKS OF POUL ANDERSON would have commentaries and footnotes.
