Mercenaries

The oxygen-breathing mercenaries deployed by the Baburites on Hermes include not only human beings and Merseians but also Gorzuni and Donarrians. These names resonate throughout the Technic History. We need hardly list all their appearances yet again. This must be the earliest mention of Donarrians in terms of the fictional chronology. We know that they are quadrupeds and that there is a Donarrian settlement on Daedalus although Diana Crowfeather does not visit it because her journey down the Highroad River is cut short.

The mercenaries are described as "...adventurers, the scourings of space..." (Mirkheim, XIII, p. 181)

Gorzuni were introduced as barbarians and Merseians as stereotypical hostile green aliens so it does not surprise us to find them on this list but we have to remember that these are entire species, not to be judged by their worst examples. Some human beings not only work for Babur but also, later, sack Earth with the Gorzuni.
