Star Trek has more instalments than Poul Anderson's Technic History. ST also has multiple media and grew into a future history series and a multiple timelines history. The Technic History is a great deal shorter than ST but is long as prose future history series go. Length is relative. Trekkies must have a lot to discuss but the Technic History also gives us a lot. We can if we want, although I usually do not, compare:
James Kirk and Dominic Flandry
Spock and Aycharaych
Federation and Empire
Klingons and Merseians
cliche warp drive and imaginative quantum hyperdrive
ST incorporates time travel which Anderson addresses better but elsewhere. Both Starfleet and the Time Patrol have a non-interference directive. I like to link the Technic History and the Time Patrol although, in this case, the link is through ST.

Kaor, Paul!
I never cared for STAR TREK, because I thought the movies thin, shallow, trite, and superficial. To say nothing of unconvincingly depicted aliens. I even thought the uniforms worn by Star Fleet personnel unconvincing!
On all these points and more Anderson did it far better in the Technic stories.
Ad astra! Sean
