Mirkheim, XXI.
In his first appearance, David Falkayn is a teenage apprentice and might not survive. In his chronologically last appearance, which is in the concluding chapter of Mirkheim, he hopes to contribute to:
"'...getting back some stability throughout what we are pleased to call civilization.'" (p. 282)
He has come a long way. And he has not yet founded the colony on Avalon. We will see Avalon but not him on it.
This future history includes future biographies and David Falkayn is comparable to Dominic Flandry who begins as a teenage Ensign who might not survive and is last seen as a Fleet Admiral and informal Imperial adviser after saving Terra and ensuring that several colony planets will be better prepared to survive the Long Night: Flandry's legacy.

Kaor, Paul!
If the Polesotechnic League managed to stagger along till about AD 2600 (using my revision of Miesel's Chronology) then I would say people like Falkayn and Old Nick managed to cobble back together some measure of stability. My guess is the worst chaos of the Time of Troubles came after that year.
Ad astra! Sean
