Three Stages And Completion

See the previous post. OK. I am obsessed about it but I do think that it is special and unique how Poul Anderson's Technic History grew through three stages to its completed form. In particular, The Van Rijn Method collects:

the first of the three instalments that had previously been collected as Trader To The Stars;

the first and second of the three that had previously been collected as The Trouble Twisters;

the first seven of the twelve that had previously been collected as The Earth Book of Stormgate;

one previously uncollected instalment;

the fictional introductions that ten of these works had acquired in their earlier collections.

And this is only the first of the seven omnibus collections of The Technic Civilization Saga. Nothing is lost and much is gained by assembling the Technic History in its entirety.

Kaor, Paul!

And this future history was so unexpected, even serendipitous, to use a term hardened fans should remind them of SATAN'S WORLD! We only have the Technic series as we now have it because Anderson impulsively mentioned "Polesotechnarch van Rijn" in THE PLAGUE OF MASTERS, linking what were originally two separate series featuring Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry.

A much more successful linking up than Asimov's attempt at linking together his Robots and Foundation series.

Ad astra! Sean
