Isaac's Universe And FLAG

Poul Anderson's For Love And Glory is divided into Chapters I-LIV (1-54).

His "The Burning Sky" became X-XXIX (10-29). Names were changed.

His "Woodcraft" became XXXIV-XL (34-40), although more was changed than names.

In FLAG, XXXIV, Lissa Windolm has already met Torben Hebo in II whereas, in "Woodcraft," Laurice Windfell has not previously met Kristan Arinberg. The texts diverge in more ways than I can analyze at present.

More later, although not on this, after breakfast and an outing with Wiccan High Priest Nygel.

Kaor, Paul!

TWENTY chapters of what became FOR LOVE AND GLORY were originally a shorter work called "The Burning Sky"? Even allowing for FLAG having quite a few fairly short chapters, that seems almost long enough to be a short novel like WE CLAIM THESE STARS.

Any COMPLETE COLLECTED WORKS OF POUL ANDERSON should include "The Burning Sky" and "Woodcraft" in a separate volume including FOR LOVE AND GLORY. With appropriate editorial comments explaining why that was done.

I've also been wondering if collecting THREE HEARTS AND THREE LIONS, A MIDSUMMER TEMPEST, and the two Old Phoenix stories into a single volume for a COMPLETE COLLECTED WORKS would make for too thick a volume. Such a volume would naturally be paired next to the one collecting OPERATION CHAOS and OPERATION LUNA.

Sean,
I would want to publish a boxed set of:

THREE HEARTS...
the two OPERATION... books
A MIDSUMMER TEMPEST
THE OLD PHOENIX AND OTHER UNIVERSES, comprising:

"The House of Sorrows"
"Eutopia"
the two Old Phoenix stories

Paul.

I thought this over, and I agree. Better than my suggestion! THE OLD PHOENIX AND OTHER UNIVERSES collects A MIDSUMMER TEMPEST, "The House of Sorrows," "Eutopia," and the two Old Phoenix stories.
