The Charges Against Flandry

Ensign Flandry, CHAPTER SIXTEEN, pp. 167-168.

Treason.
Mutiny.
Desertion.
Kidnapping.
Threat and menace.
Assault and battery.
Theft.
Insubordination.
Failure to surrender when wanted.
Creating dissension between the Empire and an associated country.

Despite all this, Flandry, defended by the Kursovikians, defiantly negotiates with Admiral Enriques and is temporarily re-attached to his command for a reconnaissance mission, accompanied by Dragoika. With only two remaining chapters, Flandry's first novel rapidly approaches its climax.

Kaor, Paul!

I would not have said Flandry was DEFIANT in that discussion he had with Admiral Enriques, to whom he did show all proper and due respect and courtesy. But I agree Flandry was very FIRM in the stand he took. I also recall how Enriques himself came alone and un-escorted to meet Flandry and Dragoika in Kursoviki.

Sean,

Enriques had two men with him but they stayed in the flitter on the tower.

Flandry threatened to break off the alliance between the Terrans and Kursoviki.

Oops! I forgot about that. Easy to do if they stayed in the flitter. I do recall how astonished Flandy was that Admiral Enrieques himself came to see him. And not a delegate.

That threat of Flandry was only meant as a last resort, if that was the only way to save the Terran Navy from Brechdan's trap. But he did not have to act on it, because Enriques provisionally accepted Flandry's interpretation of the figures from Brechdan's secret Starkad file.
