Flandry And Ydwyr

A Circus Of Hells, CHAPTER TWELVE.

"'You, uh, you are most kind, sir,' he said; the honorific appeared implicitly in the pronoun.'" (p. 283)

So, in Eriau, Flandry says something like: "You-sir are most kind."

Ydwyr's Reasoning
Flandry is a non-Merseian intelligence agent.
As an intelligence agent, he should "'...know considerable xenology...'" (ibid.)
Because he is non-Merseian, both in species and in culture, his insights may differ from those of Ydwyr and his team.
Therefore, Flandry should be able to contribute to their study of Domrath and Ruadrath.

Merseians are usually too accustomed to their assumed superiority to make full use of the talents of other races. Also, Ydwyr has heard something of the Starkad affair and knows that Flandry is capable, lucky or destined. We think all three. That "Starkad affair" casts a long shadow.

Flandry gives Ydwyr sound advice although Ydwyr realizes that that advice also serves Flandry's interests. They understand one another.

Kaor, Paul!

As the nephew of none less than the Roidhun, I would expect Ydwyr to have some connections!

Yes, I would expect the Imperial Intelligence Acadmemy to teach cadets a good deal of practical xenology.

Of course Ydwyr knew at once that Flandry's advice that the Merseians and their agents should not move too quickly against Ammon was self serving, but he was not offended. I recall that he was amused, stating that he too had once been a young male.

Ad astra! Sean
