Siekh And Talwin

A Circus Of Hells, CHAPTER ELEVEN.

Tryntaf describes a planet as they approach it:

"'F5,' Tryntaf said, 'mass 1.34, luminosity 3.06, radius 1.25.' The standard to which he referred was, in reality, his home sun, Korych; but Flandry recalculated the values in Solar terms with drilled-in ease." (p. 269)

Thus, Tryntaf does not really say, "F5," "1.34," "3.06" or "1.25," even in Eriau. Instead, he states the stellar type, mass, luminosity and radius in Eriau duodecimal numerals which Flandry then recalculates into Arabic numerals. And we read their dialogue neither in Eriau nor in Anglic but in English. Thus, we are at not one but two removes from whatever Flandry hears Tryntaf to have said.

The dialogue continues:

"'We call it Siekh. The planet we are bound for we call Talwin.'
"'Ah.' The man nodded. 'And what more heroes of your Civil Wars have you honored?'"
-ibid.

I have made some attempts to list Merseian names but these were two that I had missed.

A complete history of Technic civilization would have to include the pre-spaceflight histories of the major species, including the Merseian Civil Wars and the Terrestrial World Wars.

Kaor, Paul!

I assume those Merseian civil wars were the struggles between rival vachs, Merseian nations, and the Gethfennu preceding and leading to the rise of the Roidhunate. With the heroes being those from the winning side, of course!

Sean,
Or one from each side?
Paul.

I can see that too, esp. "heroes" admired by the victors. But, we can be fairly sure none were from the Gethfennu!
