Two Trees

In a Lunar-orbit space habitat:

"The Tree."
-Poul Anderson, Harvest Of Stars (London, 1994), 27, p. 262.

"Sequoia, biological experiment, genes cunningly mutated, growth hastened by chemistry and allowed by weight that dwindled as the crown rose..."
-ibid., p. 263.

In a base on Mercury, a holo wall shows:

"...a view up the trunk into the waving branches of the tremendous redwood they've been growing for three hundred years, in Hovestraydt City on the Moon."
-Larry Niven, "Madness Has Its Place" IN Niven, Ed., Man-Kzin Wars III (New York, 1990), pp. 1-34 AT Chapter III, p. 33.

Tomorrow or soon, more on kzinti psychology from Poul Anderson.

Kaor, Paul!

Poul Anderson may have been inspired, at least in part, by Larry Niven's THE INTEGRAL TREES. Very intriguing "environment"!

Ad astra! Sean
