Between The Wars

(Searching for images of the Homeric hereafter, I found this description of it. See The Darkness.)

In "Iron," the Saxtorphs defeat Werlith-Commandant at the red sun;

in "Inconstant Star," they defeat Weoch-Captain whom Ress-Chiuu, High Admiral of Kzin, had sent first to investigate the defeat of Werlith-Commanant, then on another mission;

in "Pele," Ghrul-Captain visits Grand Lord Narr-Souwa, hoping to redeem the honor of his house, Chiuu, after the condemnation and death of Ress-Chiuu.

Throughout this sequence of events, the kzinti, recently defeated in the First War Against Men, seek to rebuild their strength to wage a second war. Thus, Poul Anderson's three Man-Kzin Wars stories focus on this single period although there are four wars in total. Information about the remaining wars is scant. See here. Much attention in the series is focused on the occupation and post-liberation periods on Wunderland in the Alpha Centaurian System.

Kaor, Paul!

But representatives of the Patriarchy had assured Ghrul-Captain's family that his father had atoned for his disgrace by fighting the beasts in the arena valiantly. That honor had been satisfied and no disgrace attached to the defeated admiral's family.

Ad astra! Sean
