Known Space

Since we are discussing Poul Anderson's contributions to one period of Larry Niven's Known Space future history, it makes sense to outline the context by summarizing what is known (by me) of Known Space. If I get anything wrong, there must be blog readers who know more. Like Caesar's Gaul, all of the Known Space series seems to be "quartered into three halves," to quote a humorous mistranslation from Latin.

I. THE FUTURE HISTORY
Novels
World Of Ptavvs
Protector
A Gift From Earth

Collections
Flatlander
Crashlander
Tales Of Known Space
(+ the four non-Beowulf Shaeffer stories that were in Neutron Star need to be re-collected now that Shaeffer's stories have been collected as Crashlander)

II. MAN-KZIN WARS

III. THE FLEET OF WORLDS AND RINGWORLD SEQUENCE(S)

That would total thirty four volumes unless there are more than eighteen Man-Kzin Wars volumes.

II and III fit into gaps in I just as some Technic History works fit into gaps in The Earth Book Of Stormgate.

Kaor, Paul!

It's been too many years since I last seriously read any of Larry Niven's Known Space stories. Meaning I have nothing really worthwhile to say here.

Ad astra! Sean
