League Latin

Poul Anderson and Gordon R. Dickson, Star Prince Charlie (New York, 1976), 1.

In Poul Anderson's Technic History, the Polesotechnic League uses "League Latin."

In Anderson's and Dickson's Star Prince Charlie, where there is an Interbeing League, a Hoka playing the role of an Oxford tutor utters three Latin phrases on p. 13:

"'Ergo...'";
"'...in loco parentis...'";
"'Quod erat demonstrandum.'"

For many earlier blog references to Latin, see here.

Kaor, Paul!

By the time of the events seen in STAR PRINCE CHARLIE enough history had passed since the stories in EARTHMAN'S BURDEN and HOKA! for Hoka students from their planet Toka to have graduated from institutions like Oxford University. So it wasn't all that odd for an Oxford graduate like "Bertram Smythe-Cholmondoley" (I don't think we are ever told his Hoka name) to play the role of an Oxford don.
