Star Trek And The Technic History

Just returned from Andrea's place. A pleasure, as ever. We watched an episode of Star Trek: Picard. It made me think of parallels between fictional futures:

Star Trek
Captain Pike.
Captain Kirk.
Captain Picard.
Admiral Picard wanting to be reinstated for one last mission.

The Technic History
Falkayn, apprentice.
Falkayn, journeyman.
Falkayn, Master Merchant, leading the trader team.
The trader team.
Van Rijn reassembling the trader team for one last mission.
Later:
Flandry from ensign to admiral.

In Both Cases
Other characters also.

Needless to say, the Technic History is better and we want to see it done well on screen.

It would take an exceptional director.

Kaor, to Both!

And someone with deep pockets, able to provide the money needed for films about Nicholas van Rijn and Dominic Flandry. Preferably someone who's also a fan of Anderson's stories. Well, we can dream!

I left out that Kirk was an Admiral at the beginning of the first film before reverting to Captain.

A fair number of military people don't -want- promotion to general rank; too much paperwork, not enough hands-on field stuff.

Kaor, Mr. Stirling!

I can see why some Army/Navy officers don't want promotion to general/admiral. But somebody has to take care of the paper work and at least try to think of the Big Picture. And I'm inclined to think the best generals and admirals were those who had field or naval commands at the lower ranks.
