Midpoint

See Capstone.

"Star of the Sea" literally does occupy the midpoint of the Time Patrol series. In the order of events as experienced by Everard, the first six installments are:

"Time Patrol"
"Brave To Be A King"
"The Only Game In Town"
"Delenda Est"
"Gibraltar Falls"
"The Sorrow of Odin the Goth"

Then comes "Star of the Sea," which is followed by:

"Ivory, and Apes, and Peacocks"
"The Year of the Ransom"
the tripartite The Shield Of Time
"Death and the Knight"

Although "Star of the Sea" was first published in 1991, its twentieth century passages are set in 1986 before Everard's first meeting with Wanda later that year. The Shield Of Time ends with Everard and Wanda in early January 1990. Although first published in 1995, "Death and the Knight" advances their story only as far as 8 March 1990, when they are still on the holiday that they had begun in January. Thus, 1990 is as far as the series takes us in terms of the twentieth century lives of its central characters.
