The Shield Of Time,
PART FOUR,
13,212 B.C.
The previous
post focused on the pathetic fallacy but ignored the action in this short chapter:
the Cloud People demand wood, fish etc;
Huyok of Otter Strand suggests trade;
Khongan of Curlew Marsh roars that they do not trade but take;
a stone is thrown;
one of Us attacks one of them with a hand ax;
after an uproar and brawl, We flee;
the invaders are unharmed, their shafts bloodied, but two of Us are dead.
The first armed rebellion against oppression?

Not likely! One of the things I remember about this part of THE SHIELD OF TIME was how the Cloud People had themselves been fleeing enemies seeking their lives. So they were quite familiar with strife, conflict, wars, etc.

Sean,
Maybe this is the first case of invaders not displacing the inhabitants but keeping them in place to exact tribute from them? Red Fox is the genius who first invented taxation? Thus, the Tulat resist not just invasion but exploitation?
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
Hmmmmmmmmm, maybe! Altho I'm sure the idea of exacting tribute was independently invented many times.
Ad astra! Sean
Sean,
Yes but there must have been a first.
Paul.
Kaor, Paul!
Yes, there had to be a first time for SOMEONE to have invented the exacting of tribute. And it might have been Red Fox!
Ad astra! Sean
