I'm puzzled by the illustration you chose. It's an image of the Western Wall of Herod's Temple in Jerusalem. And does not seem to have anything to do with this blog piece.

Got it now! I was thinking of the Mongol destruction of the Abbasid Caliphate at the Sack of Baghdad in 1259.
