Tyler And Dalgetty, Continued

"The Sensitive Man," II.

Dalgetty's historical summary:

19th century - rampant individualism legally but also strait-jacketing social pressure and custom;

20th century - women's emancipation plus divorce and privacy laws break down social rigidity while, however, legal control tightens up through governmental functions, steeper taxes and increasing regulation of individual life;

21st century -

no more war, conscription or rationing;
increasing individual freedom from both law and custom;
elements opposed to libertarianism;
a new science of human behavior that can be used for mental and social control -

- although he then says that such control cannot be gained either quickly or easily.

Kaor, Paul!

And the social anomie and atomization of the individual in the 21st century of the Psychotechnic stories strikes me as being just as bad as the flaws of its predecessors.

Ad astra! Sean
