Interplanetary Independence

In an untold story of Robert Heinlein's Future History, entitled "Eclipse," the Martian and Venerian colonies become independent.

In Red Planet, one volume of (what I call) Heinlein's Juvenile Future History, the Martian colony becomes independent.

In Between Planets, another Heinlein juvenile novel, the Venerian colony becomes independent.

In The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, a Heinlein adult novel, the Lunar colony becomes independent.

(There is a family called Stone on the Moon in the Future History, the Juvenile Future History and The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress.)

In "The Big Rain," the third story in Poul Anderson's Psychotechnic History, the Martian colony remains within the UN whereas the "Venusians" secede.

In Heinlein's Future History, the UN is replaced by the Federation whereas, in the Psychotechnic History, it is replaced by the Solar Union.

Kaor, Paul!

And we see a human colonized Mars being an independent nation in Anderson's "The Innocent Arrival" and "The Moonrakers." And both of these stories are connected.

Ad astra! Sean
