Havig Versus Wallis

This is a war of the generalist twentieth century against the parochial nineteenth. Wallis' men waste lifespan casting back and forth to find a target moment whereas Havig pays a company to invent an instrument, the chronolog, for this purpose. Wallis' men find obvious time travelers on occasions like the day of the Crucifixion, then quit, whereas Havig secretly but systematically recruits from the entire human race. On that day in Jerusalem, he thinks of walking through the streets singing lines from the Mass - in Tim Powers' The Anubis Gates, a time traveler whistles Yesterday in London long before Paul McCartney.

Nineteenth century men who influenced twentieth century thinking more than that of their contemporaries include Clerk Maxwell, Babbage, Peirce, Ricardo and Clausewitz. Their thought helps Havigs'. No links this time but please google.

Kaor, Paul!

Jack Havig differed from Caleb Wallis mostly in being more SYSTEMATIC and "plan" oriented than his adversary. He came from a later, more advanced time than did Wallis. So it came more easily and naturally to him to find a company the chronolog for him. Something Wallis never thought of.
