"Star Ship" POVs

"Star Ship."

Although the viewpoint character is Dougald Anson, the point of view (pov) switches twice in the opening passages to other characters to give us their perceptions of Anse. The old Chinese guy notices that Anse wears Khazaki clothes, carries Khazaki weapons and speaks Krakenaui more easily than Terrestrial. He has been called "'...an absorbed Khazaki.'" (p. 282)

Secondly, his Khazaki friend, Janazik, knows that when Anse paces recklessly, some crazy scheme will emerge, needing his own unhuman intelligence to render it practicable.

As with Tabitha Falkayn among Ythrians on Avalon in the Technic History, I wonder how human beings can cope with living in close proximity to such non-human-looking intelligent beings.

Kaor, Paul!

Another way of putting it would be to say the humans stranded on Khazak were becoming ASSIMILATED into this alien culture. As was inevitable. So much so that I can't be sure the humans who had been born and brought up in Khazak could ever be quite happy living in an interstellar culture if recontact with other humans was achieved.

Ad astra! Sean
