Impressions And Cliches

Satan's World, IV. (here)

Because Cynthians have become used to travelling among the branches of the trees in their planet-wide forest, there is a popular but mistaken impression that they are arboreal like monkeys. There is also an:

"...old cliche that all humans look alike." (p. 40)

(At University, I heard someone say that "human" is an adjective, not a noun, therefore that "humans" is incorrect so I have always written "human beings," not "humans." However, if people use "human" as a noun, then it is a noun.)

These impressions, that Cynthians are arboreal and that all humans are alike, form parts of the background of life in the Solar Commonwealth and Technic civilization. We can find other such details in the stories, "How To Be Ethnic In One Easy Lesson" and "Lodestar."

Kaor, Paul!

And the invading aliens of Harry Turtledove's WORLDWAR series generally thought all humans, the "big uglies," looked alike!

Ad astra! Sean
