In the third Technic History story, "The Problem of Pain," Ythrians of the New Faith employ Aenean human beings while exploring a planet that will later be colonized and renamed Avalon. Thus:

- are introduced and will become important background features of the Technic History.

The fourth and fifth stories, "How To Be Ethnic In One Easy Lesson" and "Margin of Profit," are contemporaneous. They introduce the Polesotechnic League and feature respectively the Wodenite Adzel and the Terrestrial Nicholas van Rijn. The seventh and eighth instalments, "The Three-Cornered Wheel" and "A Sun Invisible," introduce the Hermetian David Falkayn. Thus, the Technic History gradually becomes more of a character-based series and will remain such for several more instalments. However, its total package of forty-three instalments comprises an exceedingly long future history series in terms both of page number and of fictional chronology.
