If not the David Falkayn Trilogy, we might call The Technic Civilization Saga, Volumes I-III, the Falkayn Trilogy because Vol III, Rise Of The Terran Empire, features not only David but also his son, Nicholas, his grandson, Nathaniel (Nat), and a descendant, Tabitha, all with the same surname. Tabitha appears in the last Technic History installment to be collected in Vol III and quotes her ancestor, David, Founder of the Avalonian colony.
Also in that installment, the High Wyvan of Avalon addresses the Greath Khruath of the planet from outside David Falkayn's house on First Island in the Hesperian Sea. The colonists settled on the islands before moving to the Coronan continent and Nat grew up on First Island. We remember his visit to the Weathermaker Choth on an Ythrian-settled island and, before that, the exploration of the many islands of the as yet unnamed planet by an Ythrian expedition with human employees. (Inter-species relationships can be harmonious as well as hostile.)
The Flandry series presents not remote descendants but at least a son and a daughter of Dominic Flandry. However, despite the attached book cover, they have different surnames, being illegitimate.

Am I right to think you like or prefer Nicholas van Rijn less than you do David Falkayn? I agree the latter was a decent and very able man, but I have had a soft spot for Old Nick since the first time I read any of the stories featuring him. Old Nick was so exuberant and colorful and so much more than a mere hedonist that I'm fond of him.
Hmmm, true, Dominic Hazeltine and Diana Crowfeather were illegitimate children of Flandry. But what if Diana was adopted by Flandry and took his name? And did Flandry and his wife Miriam (nee Abrams) have children of their own? We don't know!

Sean,
I think that Falkayn makes bigger contributions to the Technic History than van Rijn.
I don't think I prefer either. They are just different.

Meaning Falkayn's founding of the mixed colony of Avalon was a "bigger deal" than Old Nick running Solar Spice & Liquors? I have to at least partly agree. But Nicholas van Rijn did play a critical role in THE MAN WHO COUNTS and SATAN'S WORLD, etc.

Sean,
Yes.
Also:
saving Merseia;
finding Mirkheim;
founding Supermetals.

I agree with this listing of the achievements of David Falkayn. I would only add that the Ythrian editor of THE EARTHBOOK OF STORMGATE, Hloch, found it necessary to warn his readers that most people off Avalon remembered Old Nick, not Falkayn. Nicholas van Rijn was remembered as a folk hero on Unan Besar, for example.
